New route on Lochnagar (Scottish winter climbing)

On Monday the 18th December myself and Viv Scott went for a look at the steep buttress near the top of Eagle ridge. Conditions low down were very poor, so we abbed in from the top and completed a new pitch taking the right arete of the wall of Guy Robertson’s route “Where Eagles Dare”. This gave superb climbing in an amazing position. “State of Independence” is about VII, 8 and highly recommended as an early season target. Phototopo here
