More ski racing (Running)

Last weekend’s TSF Millet two day race was great. Held on a weekend with very heavy snow pretty much constantly falling, the organisers did a great job putting on the race at all, albeit on a substantially reduced route. There was a big field (140 teams of two) and Ben and I struggled both days with the starts – on the first day because Ben had a ski kicked off in the chaos of the sprint start, and on the second because there was such a short run in to the double skin track that we got stuck behind half the field in the first 100m. Still, some of the skills are coming together, and it’s great fun. We did OK, finishing 71st on the 1st day, and 75th on the second, leaving us 72nd overall, so about halfway down the field. Other Brits in the race were Jon Bracey and Carron Scrimgeour, who finished an impressive 14th overall and Rick Marchant and Shaun Hutson in 117th in Shaun’s first ski race.

After that I was meant to be heading to Wales for a module on my Msc, but conditions in Scotland looked pretty exceptional, so I decided instead to have a go at something I’ve been wondering about for a while – a winter Ramsay Round, on skis! I’m juggling a million weather forecasts and it looks like today might have been the day to go (except I only got here last night and had lots of small important things to sort out), but it looks like I’ll probably go for it tonight.

Quite exciting.
