Last year I was second in this classic cross country race, and since that was following a line of improvements in position, I hoped I might go one better this year. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, I was in about fiftieth a hundred metres from the start, clawed my way to third at the river crossing, and after a brief flirtation with the lead group faded for the rest of the race to finish 14th, my worst result ever as a senior in this race. I just felt completely knackered the whole way round. I felt like I was jogging but couldn’t go any faster. Perhaps spending a summer focussing on ultra distance events (Cuillin ridge, Defi de l’oisans, sentiero delle grigne skyrace) isn’t the best preparation for fast cross country races…
Anyway, it’s hard to be too down cast about for several reasons; I’ve just quit my job; I’m moving to the alps for the winter in a few weeks and I’m about to go on holiday with my girlfriend!
Got a few pictures from rock climbing over the summer to put up, nothing spectacular but some good shots, been too busy recently to update anything, sorry!
