Cuillin ridge round 2 (Running)

I’ve long wanted to do a fast Cuillin ridge traverse, and finally got around to trying last autumn, doing two reccies and one attempt (rained of before the TD gap). So I went back last week for more reccying, and hopefully a chance of a decent attempt. I arrived in Glen Brittle to driving rain and a dismal forecast, to be told that until this week they had had 26 days with no rain! Just my luck I thought. I bided my time, did some reccying in indifferent weather, before the my luck turned on Thursday. One more days reccying and I was ready for an attempt.

Thinking the weather would be similar to the day before (clear but cool) I carried just one litre of water from the start of the ridge, and had no water drops along the way. It was hot, clear and no wind, and the rock seemed to radiate heat back out at me, Soon I was rationing my water, and I ran out around Bidean (3/4 of the way round the ridge). Still, I posted a reasonable time – 3hrs 59min, close enough to the record (3hrs 32min) to consider going back once more. Am I going to spend my whole summer on Skye?...

I went back up the day after my attempt to go over the early section of the ridge, where I had made a few mistakes on the attempt.

While approaching the TD gap I ran into Dick Turnbull, my old boss from when I worked in Outside, a climbing shop in the Peak District.

The photos below were taken on that day.
