New route on Ben Nevis (Scottish winter climbing)

The international meet has been wet, windy and minging, but got good for one day yesterday. Ben Nevis was busy with international folk fast realising that Scottish winter climbers weren’t really completely mad and didn’t always climb in the driving rain!

I teamed up with young Slovenian alpinist Rok Zalokar, and we added a new direct finish to Gargoyle Wall/Hobgoblin, taking the obvious crack in the headwall above the last belay. The crux involved the quintessential Scottish move of a jammed adze. Rok had an amusing time on this since he had no adze!

Properly bad weather today, so am having a rest day after four days on the hill. Hopefully looking good for the last two days of the meet…
