I finally won my first senior fell race, it’s felt like a long time coming!
I’ve lost count of how many races I’ve come second in, so it was great to finally win one! It was a glorious sunny, crisp day. I spent ninety percent of the race a loooong way behind last years winner and record holder Dave Watson, and had kind of accepted yet another second place. A few miles from the finish he appeared on the horizon, and it didn’t look like he was running so fast any more. When I passed him he was jogging and I assumed he’d sprained an ankle. Instead, it turned out he had just blown up big time, and ended up in ninth place!
Amusingly, after travelling all the way to the peak district from Scotland (I was visiting my folks, the race was a bonus), the prize was quintessentially Scottish – a bottle of Glenmorangie!
